AVENGE THE ACA: THREE THINGS YOU CAN DO
The House has passed repeal of Obamacare, as you've probably heard by now. Though the legislation may not survive the Senate, that's not the point. The point is: whoever voted for this abomination must now face the consequences. Here are two ways you can fight back.
1. DONATE TO ACTBLUE'S GROWING FUND that fuels 2018 campaigns against House members who voted yes to repeal the Affordable Care Act on May 4, 2017. Many of these Republicans have no declared opponent yet. But it doesn't matter. They voted yes on this monstrosity, so we're building a war chest against them ahead of time. It's beautiful. Donate here.
2. CONTACT YOUR SENATORS. All hands on deck. Call every day. Visit in person. Reach out via social media, any way you can. The Senate is our last chance to kill this thing. Let's make it happen. If you can, find an Indivisible group in your area and join. They're doing great work.
3. RESIST AND PERSIST. Broaden the struggle. Find a campaign in your area that's fighting for what you believe in, or at the very least fighting against what you don't. Google an issue to find a group that's addressing a problem you're passionate about. Contact them and ask how you can help. Make phone calls. Knock on doors. Get your friends involved. If you've got some money, donate. If you live in Minneapolis or St Paul, there are city elections coming up in about six months. If you don't know who your city council member, park board representatives, or mayor are, find out and join up. Build a progressive agenda in your own backyard, and eventually our paths will converge.
If there's no upcoming election where you are, find a cause you support and join it. Volunteer at a literacy center, a homeless shelter, an immigrants' rights organization, a racial justice group, a reproductive rights organization, a legal defense initiative.
This is it, folks. What we're facing is no less than a struggle for democracy itself. Let's do this.
