SPOTLIGHT ON TURKEY: TELL CONGRESS TO SPEAK UP FOR TURKISH HUMAN RIGHTS, STAND WITH PERSECUTED TURKISH ACADEMICS

The recent election in Turkey gave unprecedented powers to the country’s autocratic leader, President Erdogan. Turkey is not a democracy, and the referendum vote was neither free nor fair. Sadly, President Trump called up the Turkish President the day after to congratulate him. He’s the only leader of a democratic country to do so.

TAKE ACTION:

1. URGE CONGRESS TO SPEAK OUT ON HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES IN TURKEY.

142 members of congress are part of the Caucus on US-Turkish Relations. It’s in their purview to speak up about this situation. See if your rep is part of the Congressional Turkey Caucus. If so,  here’s an action call (with script) to encourage them to speak out.

2. STAND WITH PERSECUTED TURKISH ACADEMICS.

After the recent crackdown targeting academic freedom in Turkey, faculty have lost their jobs, pensions, and their right to travel abroad. Make a donation here to help them.
