SHUT IT DOWN! National Action Items 4/24/17

PLEASE SHARE THIS POST!

Congress is back, and so are we. Let's keep up the momentum from this weekend, moving as a single mass with proportional velocity to send some of that energy to the House and Senate. 45's administration is heavy with inertia, and the threat of a government shutdown looms on the eve of his 100th day in office. It's the perfect time for several non-negotiable demands: No border wall, no federally funded deportation force, no withdrawal of grants for sanctuary cities, no de-funding of Planned Parenthood, no withdrawal of ACA subsidies for the poor. If the Republicans refuse, the shutdown will offer one more example of their inability to govern.

HOUSE ACTION:

If you're in Minneapolis, call Congressman Keith Ellison: (202) 225-4755 / 612-522-1212
If you're in St Paul, contact Congresswoman Betty McCollum: (202) 225-6631/ (651) 224-9191

SCRIPT, if you need it (if you know your rep already supports what you're asking for, adapt your script as a thank you— yes, this is important to do too!):

"Hello. My name is _______. My zip code is _____. I don't need a personal response. I'm calling to encourage Representative ________ to refuse any and all Republican budget imperatives that involve compromise on our core political values. That means no border wall, no federally funded deportation force, no withdrawal of grants for sanctuary cities, no de-funding of Planned Parenthood, and no withdrawal of ACA subsidies for the poor. Even if it results a government shutdown, we cannot accept these things. If you could pass my concerns along, I'd appreciate it." If you have a personal story relating to any of the above bills, it's of great value for the Representative to share during the debate if you'd care to include it. Be sure to thank the staffer for their time.
